It's difficult for me to narrow down all of the news experiences. With everything that is going on in the world today its amazing how many people are doing such good things today; but that doesn't remove all of the bad things that happen.
Starting with an unforgettable day in a lot of peoples lives, September 11th. I remember sitting in Homeroom that morning, I was in 6th grade. The events that went down that day shook up a lot of peoples homes. It made my family think about how lucky we are to have each other since so many people lost loved ones. Everyday as my family would watch the evening news there would be more touching stories from individuals who had lost loved ones in the terrorist attacks, and my heart went out to all of those people. That live footage from ground zero is a news story that I will never forget.
Secondly, I remember a news story of a Division 2 college basketball coach who was in a car accident. It was a horrible accident in a rural area, his car was almost unrecognizable. He was taken to the hospital, and while in surgery to repair damage from the car accident they found that he had cancer that was rapidly spreading throughout his body. He had to get both of his legs amputated from the knee down. But after all that had happened the first thing he asked after surgery was when he would be able to coach again. He truly loved everything about his job, and his team was very supportive all along. Not too long after, coach showed up on the court in a wheelchair to continue his passion, coaching basketball.
Lastly, I think Michael Phelps success at the 2008 Summer Olympics is definitely newsworthy. There were many stories about his 8 Gold Medals, but I remember one the most in particular. The story was more or less a story of the events Phelps would go through before an Olympic race. Starting with his always changing sleep schedule for the different race times, followed by the insane amount of calories he had to consume, followed by practice, then finally getting in the zone for the big race. Many people could not last through all the physical and mental strain, but Phelps was there racing for his country and did so successfully.
